End of Year Celebration 2024–25
A Year of Growth
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we draw the curtain on another busy and extraordinary year at St Peter’s, we want to take a moment to celebrate all that your children—and you as families—have achieved with us.
Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to achieve outstanding academic progress, especially in reading, and to nurture pupils who are happy, spiritual, respectful, hard working, and actively engaged with our community. This year, from classrooms to concerts, playgrounds to residentials, we’ve seen that mission in action every single day.
Here’s just a flavour of what’s made this year so special.
Outstanding Academic Progress, Especially in Reading
Reading has remained front and centre, with high expectations and tailored support helping pupils thrive. Our phonics results were above the national average, and next year we’re aiming for 100%—that’s how strong our foundations are. Pictured on the right is Reggie, our reading award winner, whose progress came from sheer determination (home and school!) and a love of learning.
Our Year 6 pupils rose to the SATs challenge with maturity and pride, achieving outstanding progress and above-national outcomes across the board—while showing real strength of character too.
Meanwhile, 80% of our Reception pupils met end-of-year expectations, far above national levels. They are set up brilliantly for the journey ahead.
We are also very proud of our rich, broad curriculum, led by the brilliant Mrs Walshaw. From art exhibitions and food projects to D&T workshops, sporting events, humanities, and PSHE life lessons, our pupils have thrived across the board. I have been most impressed by their enthusiasm and motivation for writing – we have seen a big improvement in this area.
Respect for Ourselves, Others and the Environment
Our Good Samaritan ethos shone through in friendships, manners, greetings at the gate, and the way pupils support one another. Everywhere we go, we hear the same thing: “Your pupils are so respectful.” That’s no coincidence.
I’ve never been prouder than when I challenged the children to raise £10 each—and they raised £12,500! Truly astounding. Their reward? They ran the school for the day—and did a brilliant job!

Thank you to everyone who supported this—what a community!
Enrichment and Enjoyment
This year has been bursting with experiences that bring joy, talent and teamwork to life.
- Music thrived, with instrumental lessons, concerts, and choir events showcasing dedication and creativity.
- In sport, we were East Devon Cross Country Champions, Tag Rugby winners, Football champions, and saw the resurgence of girls’ football. Our much-loved swimming pool was in full use as usual.
- Sports Day was a triumph of effort and spirit, with the Blue Team victorious and every child a winner in perseverance.
- Congratulations to our Warrior Dancers who were team of the year this year!
We also added new clubs including drama, gym and chess—huge thanks to the parents who helped run them.
And let’s not forget the extras we sometimes take for granted:
- Forest School
- Residentials and Year 3 sleepover
- Trips and visits
- Eco workshops and beach cleans
- Community work
- Film nights, discos, youth club
- School Leaders, Buddies, and of course… the chickens and Lindsey!
- Talent Show magic!
Thank You
This year has proved again that St Peter’s is a community like no other—full of happy, spiritual, respectful and hard-working children. Thank you for everything: reading at home, helping with costumes, supporting events, and cheering your children on.
A special goodbye and good luck to our wonderful Year 6 pupils. Our final church service was joyful and emotional. In the words of Winnie the Pooh:
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
You’re not leaving us smaller—you’re leaving us taller. In height, yes, but more importantly in spirit, and in legacy.
A huge thank you to our amazing staff—a skilled and united team that’s truly rare. And to our phenomenal PTA—the glue that holds us together. Particular thanks to Jess, Emma, Gen, Gabi, Laura, and special mentions to Kate, Emily, Bron, Zoe, Becky, Kirsty and Kat—you are all incredible.
Wishing you a safe, sunny and joy-filled summer.
With warmest wishes,
Mr Hitchcock and all the staff at St Peter’s CE Primary School
