The curriculum for this term:
Literacy this Half Term:
This half term, we will be starting with a poem called ‘A River’ by Marc Martin. In the poem the author travels along a river and describes different places along the way. The children will be working towards writing their own river poem at the end of the unit in which they travel through places of their choice.
Maths this Half Term:
We will start with place value – really getting to grips with what numbers are made from, where they sit on the number line, rounding, approximating and reasoning involving all of those skills. In Y3, times table recall is extremely important so please do practise with your child at home using TTrockstars (logins will be given to your child via letter in their bag). In KS1, children should have learnt their 2, 5 and 10 tables and now in Y3 they will learn their 3, 4 and 8.
Topic this Half Term:
Geography – continents, oceans, equator, hemispheres, map skills, where do we live, natural or man made, coordinates.
Art – Georgia O’Keeffe
Science – States of matter – solids, liquids, gas, melting, freezing, water cycle
Reading – Please hear your child read every night and fill in their reading tree for checking each Friday.
Maths – Please encourage your child to access TTrockstars or Doodlemaths 3 times a week for 20 minutes. This regular practice will make a huge difference.
