Curriculum overview – Reception
Phonics – Please check tapestry every Monday for phonics videos which will be sent home to support your child’s learning. This will start in Week 2.
Literacy – In the first few weeks we will be looking at Poetry. Please do use our library or Budleigh library to find lots of lovely poetry books. We then have a few weeks looking at prepositional language with ‘Rosie’s Walk’, then ‘The Sleepy Bumblebee’. After half term we will learn ‘The Little Green Dinosuar’ and finish before Christmas with the well loved tale of ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
Maths – We will be looking at numbers from 1-10 and ensuring a really strong foundation in subitising and understanding number and pattern with numbers 1-5 initially. We will be using concrete resources to help us fully understand what this means and enjoy discovering different ways to make the numbers. We will also be looking at shape, space and measure.
Understanding the world around us – We will be focusing on map work, the seasons, soup making with harvest, hibernation and bread hedgehogs! Our creativity curriculum will explore colour, joining materials in modelling, playdough, clay and plenty of music and rhythm.
Timetable – We have plenty of ‘chosen’ time alongside our ‘teacher time’ daily. Your child will have a teacher-led phonics and maths session daily. We have a minimum of 5 stories a day to promote our literacy and we have our main stories to learn that are listed in literacy above. We spend time outside every day whether we are doing P.E or not so please do ensure that your child has suitable clothing for the weather (coat/sunhat) and a drinks bottle.
