SEND and medical needs
Please visit our ‘Policies’ section for the SEN policies, report and Medical Needs.
At St Peter’s Primary, our underpinning ethos for all pupils, including those with SEND or Medical needs, is to achieve outstanding academic progress, and to nurture pupils who are happy, spiritual, respectful and hard working. Therefore, we support and value the abilities of all our pupils and believe that all children should be given the best possible opportunity to reach their potential. We achieve this through having high expectations for our pupils and by teaching them the skills needed to become independent and to feel confident and empowered to manage their individual needs.
As a school, we endeavour to provide equal opportunities for every person in our care and a safe, fully equipped learning environment that caters for the needs of every child as an individual. Our teaching arrangements and strategies are fully inclusive and the majority of pupils will have their needs met through the Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision. We believe that all teachers are teachers of SEND and we work as a team to identify any needs that pupils may have and support them in reaching their potential.
We cater for pupils with additional needs under the four primary areas of need:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/ or Physical Needs
Our SEND Governor is Louise McPhie. Her role is to monitor provision, teaching and learning and progress of children with SEND throughout the school.
Our SENDCo is Mrs Caroline Walshaw. She monitors and coordinates the assessment, identification, provision, tracking and intervention procedures implemented throughout the school and liaises with multi-agency support and parents/ carers. Caroline may be contacted through the school office on 01395 443167 . If she is not available, the office staff will take a message and she will endeavour to make contact as soon as she is able.
