Before I retire, it is my desire to leave a lasting legacy for St Peter’s Burial Ground(B/G). My object is to create, promote, and maintain a Wild Life and Wild Flower Sanctuary for the benefit and involvement of the community and hopefully provide educational books for outdoor nature classes at the B/G for the pupils of St Peter’s Primary School.
It involves the purchase of Bat and various Bird Boxes and feeders, Hedgehog Houses and the planting of Wild Flowers along the boundaries and selected areas, all of which Larry Sampson the groundsman will maintain.
The Council for the Preservation of Rural England (CPRE) visited the B/G last year as part of their inspection of all Cemeteries in Devon and gave us a good report except to note that we did not promote Wild Life or Wild Flowers, this is now what I would like to address.
I will produce explanatory leaflets and distribute to the community via the One Magazine asking the public to give financial support .The leaflets will also be available on the display in St Peter’s Church with envelopes.
In anticipation of your support, please post cheques payable to “St Peter’s PCC” with a note stating it is support for “B/G Sanctuary” to my address above or place in the Church letter box in the envelopes on the display or by Internet Transfer to the PCC A/c Sort Code 09-01-28, Account Number 96051138, with Reference “Burial Ground Sanctuary”.
I do hope you are able to support this worthy scheme.
Brian Shackleton (B/G Manager)
