Budleigh Library supporting families
Budleigh Library supporting families during the COVID-19 lockdown and beyond
I am writing to you on behalf of Budleigh Salterton Library, to let you know about the services we are offering that may be especially helpful to children while the physical building is closed.
If your child is already a member of Devon Libraries, then they can access eBooks and eAudiobooks for free using their library card and PIN.
If they are not sure of their PIN number, they can email firstname.lastname@example.org
If they don’t have a library card, they can join for free online and make a temporary library account with an account number and PIN number (which can be converted to a physical card when we re-open) to access these resources on the Devon Libraries website: https://www.devonlibraries.org.uk/web/arena/join-thelibrary
eBooks and eAudiobooks – over a thousand choices!
By downloading Libby Overdrive, your child can access all of the eBooks we have available. There are currently 1177 eBook titles available to children, including 235 eBooks which are always available (the others are borrowed and have a loan period much the same as physical books).
There is a ‘Reading well collection’ for children, with helpful books on mental health and wellbeing, as well as a range of useful fiction and nonfiction eBooks including Beginner Reads.
Click on the link https://librariesunlimited.overdrive.com/ to see what is available!
If you need any help using the eBook service with their library card, or need help getting the Libby app and setting it up, then Cassie from St Thomas Library has produced this brilliant video guide to help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wBXl4KyLxI
Book Track Challenge – Reading 100 books
If your child is currently participating in Book Track, please to email us a review of the books they have read (e-mail should be sent from parent/carer email account).
If your child is aged 6+ and would like to join the Book Track Challenge and read 100 books, please email email@example.com
We have started an online Lego Group – do watch the video made by Vicky and her family in praise of the NHS – as well as a Craft Club and the Poets on the Settee.
We would love the children to send us photos of any Lego models they have built, poems they have written or crafts they have made recently. Please submit photos (e-mail should be sent from parent/carer email account) to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Photos of children are only published with parental consent and only include first names.
There is also a competition to win one of five adorable “Library Mice”, handmade by one of our library volunteers. This competition is open to children ages 3 – 12 years. Draw a picture of your favourite animal (including dinosaurs and unicorns) or write a short story or poem about them. Please submit entries by 16th July (e-mail should be sent from parent/carer email account) to email@example.com.
Other libraries in Devon are running regular live Bounce and Rhyme and Story Time sessions on their Facebook pages and most are recorded, so can be viewed at a later date.
All these events (and others) are advertised on the Budleigh Salterton Library Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BudleighSaltertonLibrary/
Reading for Parents/Carers
We don’t want adults to miss out on our digital services! All the information at the beginning of this letter about joining online, pin numbers and free access to e-books, audiobooks, applies to adults too.
We also have access to a selection of free online magazines, Ancestry Library Edition and Medici.tv – the leading video streaming service for classical music, opera and ballet.
Stay safe and we hope it is not too long before we can welcome you and your family back to Budleigh Salterton Library.
Jane and all the staff at Budleigh Salterton Library
