Free School Meals and Pupil Premium
Did you know that if you sign up your child for Free School Meals, then the school will receive an extra £1,320 to help their education!
What is in it for you?
With the help of this money we can give your child even more support at school. We can also pay for school uniform, trips, music tuition and clubs – saving you money! As well as this they get a free school meal every day and milk at break time.
Please can you check below to see if you are eligible!
Note: Every child in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 receives a universal infant free school meal. This is not the same as pupil premium and they will not automatically qualify. You need to apply as below as they are not the same thing. Confusing – yes! Service children (armed forces) can also qualify for £300 per year.
Parents/carers in receipt of the following support payments will be entitled to receive Free School Meals:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit.

Applying for Free School Meals
We would be more than happy to do any of this with you in the School Office, please just ask.
The Citizen Portal (https://goo.gl/De9d77) is the quickest and easiest way to apply and will result in you getting an instant decision. You will need your National Insurance Number.
You can use the online application form (http://www.devon.gov.uk/free_school_meals.htm), which you can email to firstname.lastname@example.org or print out and post to FSM Team, Room L102, County Hall, Exeter EX2 4QD. Please note that from the 30th September 2017 this method of applying will be removed, as online applications will need to be made through the Citizen Portal.
Parents and carers can also ring the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019.
On Monday 2nd October and Tuesday 3rd October, from 14:30 to 15:30, Chrome books will be set up in the Staff Room to allow parents the opportunity to apply online in school. A member of staff will be present to provide support if needed.
Refreshments will be provided.
I will do it later!
Do not put this off! If applications are received after a certain date, then this will significantly delay Pupil Premium payments by up to a year.
