Sports day plan 2018
Our Sports Day will take place on Friday 22nd June. I am naively optimistic that the weather will be beautiful for this day!
Your child will be representing their House in a series of mixed gender races, many of which involved running as part of a team in a relay format. When not running, pupils will take part in a carousel of athletic events, some of which will be linked to the Paralympic Games, with a focus on pupils challenging themselves to break their Personal Best.
Key Stage 2 (years 3-6) pupils will compete in the morning.
Foundation 2 (Reception) and Key Stage 1 (years 1 and 2) pupils will compete in the afternoon.
At approximately 11:00, pupils in Nursery will also take part in a special event.
Clothing, medication etc
Your child will need to arrive in school wearing their PE kit, including their green PE t-shirt, dark/black shorts and trainers (not their school uniform). In addition, they will need a hat to protect their head and neck from the sun and a full water bottle. Your child should not wear any items of jewellery – please remove these before they arrive at school. We strongly recommend that you apply a high factor and long lasting sun cream onto your children before they arrive in school.
Your child will need to bring their inhaler (even if they have not used it recently) to school.
By taking part in events, your child will earn points for their House.
The overall winning House in Foundation 2/KS1, the overall winning House in KS2 and the overall winning House in the whole school will be announced during a special Sports Day Assembly on Monday 25th June.
Spirit of the Games
The Spirit of the Games values of Honesty, Respect, Determination, Teamwork. Self-Belief and Passion will be celebrated on Sports Day. If your child is given a sticker for one of these values, they should keep it and wear it on their uniform on Monday 25th June so that we can celebrate them in our special Sports Day Assembly.
Spectators and Photographs
Parents/Grandparents/Family members are very welcome to come to watch Sports Day and we will put some benches on the school field. However, I strongly recommend that you bring a ‘picnic rug’ because we will soon run out of space on the chairs/benches.
Due to the quick turn around between all events we will be asking children to stay with their Sport Day groups rather than going to parents/grandparents, otherwise they may miss part of the Sports Day event.
Spectators will be asked not to stand on the running track or at the end of the sprint track – we have not had any accidents but there have certainly been some very near misses!
Parents/Grandparents/Family members are welcome to have a picnic lunch on the edge of the running track. However, during the lunch break we will be setting up the afternoon events. Once your child has eaten their lunch they will be asked to play on the playground rather than the field.
Members of staff will be taking photographs of pupils who have provided photographic consent and these photographs will be uploaded onto the school website. Parents/Grandparents may take a photograph of their own child, but must not include any other pupils within the image.
