Welcome back!

Dear parents and carers,

A warm welcome back after the Summer break. I hope you are all refreshed and ready to go! A special welcome to all our new Reception and Pre-school children, who are taking their first steps into the school system this term. We also welcome Marley in Year 1, and Mawgan in Year 5.

As always, we will have a busy term ahead of us. We have moved a lot of the classes and teachers around this year, so it might take us a few weeks to get our bearings! Welcome to Miss Luff and Miss Shepherd who join us as trainee teachers this year.

Please make sure you attend the Start of Year Parents Meeting,  on Thursday 21st September 3pm and 7pm. You can find out the expectations for your child’s new class, what’s happening this year, and meet the class teacher(s).

We are going to be monitoring reading more closely this year. Every child will receive a reading log so we can track that they are reading every day. This is absolutely crucial for the academic achievement and development of a love for reading. Although our library is still not available, we still have a range of books to choose from. Please see your class teacher if you need any support with this. We are doing well with our fundraising for the new library. Please do support the PTA this term, with exciting events like ‘The Big Cheese’! I am hoping to bring you news of when the library work will be starting soon.

Minimum reading time expected each day:

Reception – 5 minutes          Year 1 – 10 minutes

Year 2 – 15 minutes               Year 3 – 20 minutes

Year 4 – 25 minutes           Year 5 – 30 minutes

Year 6 – 35 minutes

This term we are going to try and refine our communications systems. It is really important, if you haven’t done so already, to sign up to the school newsletter: http://eepurl.com/bprfmj

  • All news will now be posted to the school website. Each week you will receive an automated email alerting you to these posts. This might be something we want to celebrate, PTA news, or something happening in our community. You will be able to refer back to the school website at any time, as a central repository for news and information.
  • Each Friday there will be a separate ‘Need to know’ email, with the very important information and reminders that you need to read for the week ahead. It is essential that everyone reads this. If you do not want an email, we will send a paper flyer home. (We are trying to save time and paper, so please stick to email if you can).
  • Class teachers will also send out their weekly class newsletters. These will give you information about what your child has learnt (so you can discuss it with them) and what they are doing in the week ahead (so you can help them if you wish). There will also be specific reminders just for your class.

We do need to collect up to date emails from everyone. Please take 30 seconds to record your email details here: https://goo.gl/forms/dM5WugDIrDoti3yv1

As always, please do come and see us if you have any questions or concerns. We’d rather know than not!

Thank you for your continuing support,

Steve and the St Peter’s team
