YEAR 5/6 QUICKSTICKS FESTIVAL AND TOURNAMENT

SPRING  2019

The LC decided to continue with the hockey that was introduced so successfully last year, to really embed this game within schools. Again the term started with training for teachers and any adults who were working in schools to deliver hockey. 9 people were booked on the session, but it was fantastic to have 27 enthusiastic adults giving hockey a go!

The first thing was the Yr 5/6 Festival. 15 teams took part in this. It was brilliant for the teams to play on a proper astro with a decent sized pitch and big goals. The standard of play increased during the festival with some highly charged games happening!

The next event was the  Year 5/6 Tournament, which although not a feeder to anything, was an excellent opportunity for the teams who were going to play in the East Devon event a few weeks later. 10 teams chose to take part in this, which was a great number and made for a “relaxed” event!! All teams had 4 pool games and then at least an extra game  to decide final placings.

The games were referred by the ECC 6th Formers who were all hockey players and excellent at understanding the game and knowing when to let advantage be played!

The semi final consisted of Withycombe A v St Peters A which finished 0-3; and the other semi was Brixington v Littleham which ended 1-0.

The following 3rd/ 4th playoff match was decisive with Littleham achieving the bronze medals which was a great achievement. The final followed between Brixington and St Peters but finished 0-0 at full time, and even with extra time played the teams could not be separated and they were both called the winners!

Final scores were:

Joint 1st Brixington and St Peters A
3rd Littleham
4th Withycombe A
5th Bassetts
6th St Jo’s
Joint 7th Withycombe B and St Peters B
9th Beacon
10th Marpool

Well done everyone and also the superb ECC Leaders.
