Christianity and Islam day
On Wednesday 10th February, volunteers from St Peter’s Church, Budleigh Salterton Baptist Chapel and the University of Exeter Islamic Society supported a joint Christianity and Islam day at St Peter’s Church of England Primary School.
During the day pupils explored: What is Prayer from Christian and Islamic perspectives? What are the 5 Pillars of Islam? How do Muslims pray? How do Christians pray? What is expected of a person following Islam? What is expected of a person following Christianity? Why is Hajj one of the Five Pillars? Why is giving important for Muslims (Zakah)? Why is giving important to Christians?
It was fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their understanding of two faiths and notice similarities between the faiths and aspects of each faith which are unique.
Wisam from the University of Exeter Islamic Society was amazed by the pupils focus on the learning and willingness to ask thoughtful questions.
